Analysis

Colours are on pastel palette and softened, with a warm tone palette on the facial skin tones. How ever the rest of the image is on a cooler palette. Image is well Lit and bright, we see a large contrast between the figure and the background how ever, colours are all blended in . Seeing the butterfly with the same palette of back ground colours suggests also seeing the direction butterfly is pointing that it is giving life and colour to the image though on a cooler palette. Giving it a translucent effect yet seeing the woman's face, and expression.

A painting from Monet's Collection of around 600 paintings. This painting shows the study of the great out doors, flowers and landscape. Monet has a series of these paintings showing the study of lighting situations in gardens always including a woman with a parasol and a child. Painting shows perspective and depth. Also showing a bright sunny day, yet cloudy. Red flower symbolizing possibly a poppy field. The lines leading with the red poppy field to the figure on the rule of thirds. Balancing in the image with the large tree on the left again being positioned on the rule of thirds, showing the painting is carefully composed .

Having a journey through time, having a look at all the historical periods, practitioners and movements . One can clearly see that in those times people were very influential on their discoveries. The industrial age and revolution brought with it major developments in the artistic world and photographic industry, photography was completely revolutionized thanks to George Eastman. Producing the first mass produced cost efficient camera. Available to the general public.

Photography helped in making history by capturing history and major events, not letting people forget the wrong doings,or even showing the world what was never seen before. Like the front lines and the real life in war. Serving as propaganda or campaigns. Famous artists and photographers such as Alexander Rodchenko, were influenced by the revolution and the Russian war. Being a constructivist, effected by the machine age he was famous for his photomontages or collages.Which had linear forms. Symmetrical and also in certain collages organical in form. Formal elements were used through out the ages together with image composition, by the masters themselves. Defining through photography.

Henri Cartier Bresson, made an impact, with his decisive moment images capturing the attention of viewers for decades. After a long and successful career and retiring from photography, he later turned to art and paintings. His art was not as  impressive as his photography, as Bresson himself explains in an interview, he replicated his photographs in paintings. He looked for life to fill in the empty lifeless spaces in his images. Waiting like a hunter to capture the right instant. This is what made his photography so unique in its own right making him a master of space and time.

Analyzing various famous architects, such as frank Lloyd wright and Walter Gropius, one can notice the flowing lines in the buildings they produced. Being quite avant - garde for their era. One thing this common to all is that their inspirations came out through their poverty and boy hoods living on the streets and family farms. Excelling in their capabilities from being a nobody to societies. The shapes they designed facades and interiors with come out from their child hoods, what they experienced. 6

Patterns were used throughout decades, artists, painters and architects. As one of the main formal elements used. Paul Strand being one of the leading architectural photographers, he mainly used lines and shadows, together with texture to enhance his images and bring the architecture to life. Giving it character.

Similarly in my own architectural Photography i use the same principles and try to keep away from the normal documentative shot. Giving life and a different perspective, makes the structure be seen differently with a different opinion.

Anna Atkins produced some of the earliest and amazing Cyanotypes, even then she had sense and meaning of true composition, repetition and linear forms formed part of the characteristics in her images. Formal elements are all around us and are being used in everyday life. Where form always function, and is one of the most important principles, in art and design. Shapes and forms almost always follow to the function.
